Hair, makeup and fittings, it's all part of the preparations for this year's Fashion Show with a Twist. While models look forward to the fun, they are also focused on an important cause - supporting Haven House to help domestic violence survivors. Models like Nancy Cox of the Bonadio Group hope to raise a lot of money for Erie County's only licensed shelter for domestic violence survivors while bringing attention to the lifesaving services.
Nancy first got involved with Child & Family Services in 2014 by attending the Fashion Show with a Twist. As part of the Ambassador Committee, she's had a rare opportunity to learn more about Haven House. She's thankful the shelter is an option for domestic violence survivors. "They can get out. They can have a healthy child. They can have a healthy life. These resources are available and the amazing people that work there are so dedicated to what they do and the people that they help."
You can feel the compassion that Nancy has for the families. She gets a little teary-eyed while talking about her experiences volunteering with the Agency. She was touched by a room full of donated diapers available for moms and the youngest served by Haven House and artwork that highlights a survivors' journey. "You put yourself in those shoes. Where there's a room full of baby items, diapers and things that you so take for granted that they don't have. They walk in with nothing, and the fact that they need to go into this room where all of these things are provided...that's really for me what was so impactful."
Many of those items are donated or purchased with the help of money raised at events like Fashion Show with a Twist. This year, the fashion show is on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 5:30 pm at Samuel's Grande Manor in Williamsville. Admission is $30 and includes dinner, a basket raffle and a unique boutique shopping experience. You can reserve your seat online.
