We are proud to announce that Child and Family Services’ Gretchen Szymanski has been unanimously elected as a member of the Board of Directors to the New York State Alliance of Sex Offender Service Providers.
Gretchen is the Program Coordinator of the Sex Offender Management Program (SOMP) at Child and Family Services and has evaluated and treated juvenile and adult clients at the agency for almost nine years. She is an advocate for community safety and believes the ultimate goal of treatment programs like SOMP is to “work closely with our court systems, law enforcement agencies, treatment providers and the community to avoid future victimization” said Gretchen Szymanski of Child and Family Services’ SOMP.
As a newly elected board member, Gretchen hopes to extend more of an outreach to the Western New York area and utilize her role as a collaborator between service providers in hopes of working together to provide the most effective sex offender treatment and supervision programs possible. SOMP at Child and Family Services provides extensive clinical risk assessments and group therapy for adult offenders and risk assessment and individual therapy for juvenile offenders. SOMP collaborates with the court systems, the Probation Departments in Erie, Niagara and Genesee Counties, as well as NYS Parole. In 2007, SOMP was honored by the New York State Alliance of Sex Offender Service Providers and the New York State Chapter for the Association of Sexual Abusers and presented with the Marilyn Etcheverry Award. This award recognized exemplary administration and management of a sex offender community treatment program for adults, adolescents and their families using a victim centered approach.
