Become a Foster Parent

To foster or adopt a child you must be at least 21 years of age and financially stable. Prospective parents can be single or married, living with a partner, renter or homeowner. All foster and adoptive parents are required to go through Child and Family Services’ certification and training program. This involves the following:

All foster and adoptive parents are required to undergo a certification process. What does this involve?

  • 10-week MAPP/GPS training program
  • Medical Clearances
  • Financial Clearances
  • Home Study
  • In-Depth Review of the perspective parent’s childhood and family history
  • Several personal reference letters
  • Background Checks – complete criminal history review, including local police clearances and a clearance through the State Central Registry for child abuse and neglect

Stipends: Foster and adoptive parents are eligible to receive a monthly stipend, funded through the county of the child’s origin. A foster child’s medical expenses are covered as well. Additional reimbursements may be provided for certain travel.
